Please fill the thesis application form [PDF] on your computer and submit it to the BIB Administration Office (either personally or letter box)
The last day of the teaching period always applies as the application deadline for admission to write the thesis. When you apply for the admission to write the thesis, you must have already defined your thesis title (topic) and it must be approved and signed at least by your first supervisor.
Old Study Regulations (50/18)
You must be able to provide proof of at least 150 ECTS (not including the internship). Semster 1-3 must be completed! Your internship has to be completed and your Internship Documents have to be submitted before the Deadline of the Application. You can also apply if you still need to acquire up to ten credits but only from Semester 4-5. These must be completed during the 7th semester. Admission Forms will be send to you via email to your HTW email address on one of the two official admission days.
New Study Regulations (09/15) (enrollment since Summer Term 15)
150 ECTS from Semester 1-5 are completed and the permission to complete the compulsory internship is granted (Internship Application Form signed by the BIB Administration office). You can also apply if you still need to acquire up to six credits but only from Semester 4-5. These must be completed during the 7th semester. Admission Forms will be send to you via email to your HTW email address on one of the two official admission days.
Topic and supervision
You choose the topic and the supervisor yourself. Only professors at HTW Berlin can serve as your first supervisor. The thesis should address a business-related topic and investigate it both theoretically and empirically.
Second supervisor can be either a teacher (LBA) from HTW or an external person. If you choose an external supervisor the following documents/information has to be submitted together with the Thesis application form:
- Copy of the Final Diploma
- Complete Contact information: Telephone No, email address, postal address
Thesis duration and submission

You have nine weeks to write the thesis. The thesis must be submitted in triplicate as a printed and bound version and on CD to the Faculty Administration. Additionally you have to submit a loose sheet of the statutory declaration as well as the first page of your thesis.
New Study Regulations (09/15) - enrollment since Summer 15
You have eight weeks to write the thesis. The thesis must be submitted in triplicate as a printed and bound version and on CD to the Faculty Administration. Additionally you have to submit a loose sheet of the statutory declaration as well as the first page of your thesis.
Change of Thesis Topic
Should you unexpectedly encounter problems with the topic of your thesis, you may exchange the topic once within the first four weeks of the working period.
You need to fill the Form Request to change the Thesis Topic . Minor changes in the topic (wording) only have to be agreed upon with the first supervisor, but an email confirmation of the Change from the 1st supervisor has to be submitted to the BIB Administration Office.
An extension of the deadline is only possible in certain, exceptional cases (significant events that were not predictable and not in control of the canditate before the start of the thesis writing period). Candidates must apply for the extension at least 4 weeks prior to the deadline using the application [PDF] form and submit it to the programme coordinator, Nicole Biehl.
Sickness during the writing period
A sick certificate/note must be handed in within 3 working days from the day of issue to the BIB course administration office. A maximum of 7 calendar days is granted once. If the sick note exceeds 7 calendar days, an official attestation from a public health office has to be provided.
Final oral examination
The Oral examination is the last examination in your studies. Before you can defend your Thesis, all your grades have to be in LSF and your examination file ready.
